Had a bit of excitement with a van fire on Bongalong Road, Hindmarsh Island the other day. A report of a van and grass fire. We hopped in our car and went the 2 roads over to have a look.
Yep it was on fire but luckily was parked in the middle of the road and the grass hadn’t caught fire.
The CFS (Country Fire Service) trucks arrived after about 15 minutes – which is excellent time for out here. It takes me 14 minutes to get to work so for them to have a truck here in that time was very quick. Goolwa 34, Goolwa 24 and Currency Creek 24 responded
It was put out without the grass paddocks catching fire. This is the second vehicle fire on Hindmarsh Island in 2 weeks.

The land and waters around my home are all in the Coorong National Park. There are several rules about the park, one is no dogs allowed (that means I can only walk our dogs on the road and not across the paddocks) and no jetski’s. The no jetski’s have been a bonus and we don’t have those noisy things going past on the water.
Well on 28th Jan there is one in the channel.
I took photos and they were so worried I would dob them in that they came and looked for me to ‘talk about it’
We are having very unusual weather here at present. We are in the midst of an extreme heatwave. This will be the 3rd day of over 40C heat. There is a northerly wind and today may turn out to be an explosive day in regards to bushfires. The sunrise gives no indication of the day ahead.
Well no bad bushfires happened but from a personal point of view the heatwave was very expensive for us. During a heat related power flick my work computer has developed ‘issues’. Sigh. And before going to bed we discovered the large 10 cu ft upright freezer at home had carked it. We moved $700 worth of luckily still frozen food, to daughter’s home/freezers at midnight.
