PhotoHunt theme for the week beginning 23rd February 2013 is ‘Upper’

My youngest son and his girlfriend bought their first house and it was a deceased estate and had been empty for 18 months while the elderly owner was in a nursing home. After her death the family put the house up for sale as they settled her estate.

My son was given the key by the owners family so he can do some painting etc. before the settlement date.

This house is a ‘do-er upper’

Sold! The For Sale board asks the buyer to take up the challenge.

Front of houseThe front of the house and it is a nice first home, it just needs a bit of loving care and repairs

Back verandahThe back verandah

All ready to clean and paintI washed all the interior walls down in preparation for painting before the settlement date

Find the water meter18 months being unoccupied meant that the yards were all overgrown. My son was looking for the water meter amongst the ‘jungle’. The grey cover behind him was the gas meter so that was easy to find.

My son and his girlfriend have now owned their ‘do-er-upper’ for nearly 2 years and many things have changed but it still is a work in progress as money and time permits.

About the PhotoHunt

The Saturday PhotoHunt is a photography blog “meme” that was started in March 2006

To play, you simply post a photo on your own blog that represents the theme. These are snapshots that you might have taken on a trip, with your family, or in your home. It is important to use only your own photos.

We are not professional photographers . . . although some are. We are bloggers who are having fun with different themes and sharing our photography. You can see more PhotoHunt entries at Whistlestop PhotoHunt and on Facebook

Many times a fixer- upper is the way to go… paint and fixins go a long way!

We were afraid of the challenges that come from a fixer upper house! We bought a new one and discovered a whole set of challenges there as well. LOL

It is a nice process to take a house and make it a home.

    Have a great weekend.

The front of the house looks lovely. I wonder if it costs a fortune. Houses are expensive in my country.

that is a lovely house to own. indeed, it just needs a bit of loving care and repairs and it could truly turn into one lovely house. wish that one day there’ll be a photohunt theme that could feature the ‘new’ house. 🙂
