Well my closed business (and me when you think about it) was replaced by a machine. Savings and Loans Credit Union rented the front part of my old shop and put a ATM machine into the window. They effectively stole my customer goodwill as members had been coming to my business for the last 14+ years to do their credit union business. The ATM was installed this week.
My business Encounter Coast Agency in Goolwa is closing on 29th May 2009 – that’s 3 days time. This has been bought about due to the main agency closing their network at the end of June 2009 and me deciding that Encounter Coast Agency is not viable without that agency. End of an era for a long established Goolwa business. Encounter Coast Agency has been in Goolwa for over 27 years.
Last week I got a phone call from the Savings and Loans Credit Union, which I am an agent for telling me that they will be closing their WHOLE agency network at the end of the financial year (8 weeks away). :lying: This came as a shock as they are the source of my main income. They also haven’t allowed much time in telling us agents of the decision. After discussions with the family I decided to close my whole shop and business down at the end of May 2009. This will give me a month to tidy up accounts before the end of the financial year. My business, Encounter Coast Agency has been in Goolwa over 27 years (they were here when I was pregnant with my 27 year old son) and have been a Savings and Loans Credit Union Agent for approx. 12 years. It is a sad time but part of me is relieved as I am getting tired and was thinking of selling next year (which would have been 10 years of ownership for me). An end of an era and another nail in country town services. The local travel agent closed in March in Goolwa.
