I am doing an online class and it has a royal food theme. This is the first online class I have taken and it is very interesting.

Part of the course includes a cook-along food dish.

Week 1 was a Tutor pie called Tarte owt of Lente

Here is my Tarte owt of Lente

I made the pastry by using a pre-packaged pastry mix that all I had to do was add the water to combine. Saved rubbing butter into flour!

I used Ricotta, cheddar and cottage cheese for the filling and while the recipe called for pounding it with a mortar and pestle I again took the easy way and used a stick blender to ‘pound’ the cheeses into a paste. I used an Australian mountain pepper mix for the spices.

A bit of fancy decoration and the pie goes into the oven.

I was very surprised at how it rose in the cooking process. It smelt wonderful coming out of the oven. pie1

It looked great when cut it and I can see that the ‘rise’ was all air.  pie2

The pie tasted great and was even better the next day as a cold slice.

I was very impressed with the simplicity of making the pie and the great taste that resulted.

Cheese piecesAt a local weekend market I visited recently there was a cheese stall and after a sampling I liked 2 of the cheeses so decided to treat myself as I hadn’t been near a specialist cheese outlet for some time. I saw the price of $19.95 on the cheese and you know I assumed it was per kg. The owner did say that it was 100g and yes I agreed and he cut me off a 100g slice from the block. I asked for a similar amount on the second cheese and that ended up being a chunk. It was at about that point I realised that the $19.95 price was per 100 grams. There was no way I could back out of the sale at that point as he had cut me off 2 pieces of cheese.

This is what you get for $36 (the plate is a small bread and butter plate btw)

Slice of cheese

I took multiple pics of the cheese to show the sizes because no matter which way you looked at them the pieces were small. Chunk of cheese

So this cheese worked out at $199.50 per kg.

This is the most expensive cheese I have ever bought or tasted for that matter.

About the PhotoHunt

The Saturday PhotoHunt is a photography blog “meme” that was started in March 2006

To play, you simply post a photo on your own blog that represents the theme. These are snapshots that you might have taken on a trip, with your family, or in your home. It is important to use only your own photos.

We are not professional photographers . . . although some are. We are bloggers who are having fun with different themes and sharing our photography.
